Comments: This species has sometimes been named E. cylindriflora Hochst. following identification by Tom Cope at Kew. This follows the latter author's treatment of Eragrostis for the Flora Zambesiaca, where he regards as a species complex a number of species that are recognised in neighbouring South Africa as separate species. This includes E. trichophora and I am following this narrower circumscription for the plant that has been introduced fairly recently into Australia and is becoming widespread along roadsides in Queensland, N.S.W. and the N.T..
