Habit.
Perennial. Rhizomes present, short. Culms 50–100 cm tall, 1(–3) mm diam., 4–5
-noded. Mid-culm nodes glabrous. Lateral branches simple or sparsely branched.
Leaf-sheaths smooth to antrorsely scabrous, glabrous on surface or hairy.
Ligule an eciliate membrane, 2–3 mm long, truncate. Leaf-blades flat, 10–25 cm
long, 2–5 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface scaberulous.

Inflorescence.
Inflorescence compound, a panicle. Panicle linear, 15–30 cm long, 1.5–3 cm
wide.

Spikelets.
Spikelets pedicelled. Fertile spikelets 1-flowered, comprising 1 fertile
floret(s), without rachilla extension, linear, terete, 4–5.5 mm long.

Glumes. Glumes
similar, thinner than fertile lemma. Lower glume lanceolate, membranous,
without keels, 3 -nerved. Lower glume surface indumented. Upper glume
lanceolate, 4–5.5 mm long, membranous, without keels, 5 -nerved. Upper glume
surface indumented.

Florets.
Fertile lemma 3–4 mm long, without keel, 5 -nerved. Lemma surface indumented.
Lemma apex entire or dentate or lobed, awned, 1 -awned. Median (principal) awn
apical or from a sinus, 14–30 mm long overall, with a twisted column. Column
5–13 mm long. Palea 2 -nerved, without keels. Lodicules present. Anthers 3.
