Habit.
Perennial. Culms 50–100 cm tall, 0.4–1.2 mm diam., compressible, 3 -noded.
Mid-culm nodes pubescent. Lateral branches simple. Leaf-sheaths smooth or
scaberulous. Ligule an eciliate membrane, 3.5–8 mm long, membranous, acute or
acuminate. Leaf-blades involute or convolute, 15–30 cm long, 0.7–0.9 mm wide.
Leaf-blade surface scaberulous, indumented.
Inflorescence.
Inflorescence compound, a panicle. Panicle linear, 6–12 cm long, 0.5–1 cm wide.
Spikelets.
Spikelets pedicelled. Fertile spikelets 1-flowered, comprising 1 fertile
floret(s), without rachilla extension, linear, terete, 4–7 mm long.
Glumes. Glumes
similar, thinner than fertile lemma. Lower glume lanceolate, membranous,
without keels, 3 -nerved. Upper glume lanceolate, 4–6 mm long, membranous,
without keels, 3–5 -nerved. Upper glume surface smooth or asperulous.
Florets.
Fertile lemma 3–4.5 mm long, without keel, 5 -nerved. Lemma surface indumented.
Lemma apex entire, awned, 1 -awned. Median (principal) awn 12–18 mm long
overall, with a twisted column. Column 3.5–10 mm long. Palea 2 -nerved, without
keels. Lodicules present. Anthers 3. Grain 2–2.5 mm long.
