Habit.
Perennial. Rhizomes absent. Stolons absent. Culms erect, 150–200 cm tall, 10–13
-noded. Mid-culm nodes glabrous or pubescent. Lateral branches simple.
Leaf-sheaths glabrous on surface. Leaf-sheath auricles absent. Ligule an
eciliate membrane, 1–1.5 mm long. Leaf-blades 15–38 cm long, 2–5 mm wide.
Leaf-blade surface smooth, glabrous.
Inflorescence.
Inflorescence subdigitate, a panicle of racemes. Racemes 2–6, spreading, 3–8 cm
long, 2 mm wide. Central inflorescence axis 0.5–1 cm long.
Spikelets.
Spikelets sessile. Fertile spikelets 2-flowered, the lower floret barren
(rarely male), the upper fertile, comprising 1 basal sterile florets,
comprising 1 fertile floret(s), without rachilla extension, elliptic, dorsally
compressed, 3.5 mm long.
Glumes. Glumes
thinner than fertile lemma. Upper glume lanceolate, 3.5 mm long, membranous,
without keels, 3 -nerved. Upper glume surface glabrous. Florets. Basal
sterile florets 1, barren, without significant palea. Lemma of lower sterile
floret 100 % of length of spikelet, membranous, 3–7 -nerved.
Fertile lemma 3 mm
long, without keel. Anthers 3.

Notes. Only
known from two collections from the Aurukun area of Cape York. It has narower
spikelets than P. notatum and a broader rachis than P. vaginatum.
It also has a particularly broad rachis.
