Habit.
Perennial. Stolons present. Culms decumbent, 20–40 cm tall, 2–3 -noded. Lateral
branches sparsely branched. Ligule an eciliate membrane, 1 mm long. Leaf-blades
flat or convolute, 8–16 cm long, 2–4 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface glabrous.
Inflorescence.
Inflorescence digitate, a panicle of racemes. Racemes 2–3, spreading, 6–9 cm
long, 2 mm wide. Central inflorescence axis 1.5–2.5 cm long.
Spikelets.
Spikelets pedicelled. Fertile spikelets 2-flowered, the lower floret barren
(rarely male), the upper fertile, comprising 1 basal sterile florets,
comprising 1 fertile floret(s), without rachilla extension, elliptic, dorsally
compressed, 4.5 mm long.
Glumes. Glumes
thinner than fertile lemma. Upper glume elliptic, 4.5 mm long, chartaceous or
cartilaginous, without keels, 2 -nerved. Upper glume surface glabrous. Florets.
Basal sterile florets 1, barren, without significant palea. Lemma of lower
sterile floret 100 % of length of spikelet, cartilaginous.
Fertile lemma 3.5–4 mm
long, without keel. Anthers 3.
