Habit. Annual
or perennial. Culms 20–80(–150) cm tall. Ligule an eciliate membrane, entire or
bilobed. Leaf-blades 5–26 cm long, 0.9–7 mm wide.

Inflorescence.
Inflorescence compound, a panicle or a panicle. Panicle dense, 4–26.5 cm long,
evenly furnished.

Spikelets.
Fertile spikelets 1-flowered, comprising 1(–2) fertile floret(s), with a barren
rachilla extension, 7–9 mm long.

Glumes. Lower
glume subulate. Upper glume subulate, 6.8–9 mm long.

Florets.
Fertile lemma 6–7.5(–8) mm long, keeled. Lemma apex entire, awned. Median
(principal) awn dorsal, 17–26 mm long overall, with a twisted column. Anthers
(2–)3. Grain 3.2–3.4 mm long.
