as a sand and soil binder on foreshores and margins of salt-swamps.
Z. macrantha was incorrectly referred to
Z. pungens Willd. (a later synonym of Z. matrella (L.) Merrill)
by Bentham and other authors until 1931.
All around the E coast
from near Melbourne to the Shoalwater Bay
area of Qld, N of Yeppoon. Occurs in eroded hollows of coastal rock platforms,
on beach sand dunes, sometimes with other grasses such as Cynodon dactylon,
and in mangroves and salt marshes.
