: South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria,
Tasmania.

Notes.  Formerly attributed to Z. matrella
(L.) Merrill, but differs in its firmer, erect stems and leaves and the
truncate rather than oblique attachment of the spikelet to the pedicel. Differs
from Z. macrantha subsp. macrantha by the foliage forming a much
more compact mass, the culms being shorter and rhizomes more frequent.

Found in the Lower
Eyre Penin., Kangaroo Is. and SE region of S.A.,
scattered across eastern and near-coastal Vic., commonly on the islands of Bass Strait, and in N coastal Tas. Recorded from open
scrub of Melaleuca halmaturorum, in black soil over clay, around the
edges of inland swamps, and at the foot of coastal cliffs.
