Habit.
Perennial. Culms erect, 30–45 cm tall, 5 -noded. Mid-culm nodes glabrous.
Leaf-sheaths scaberulous. Ligule an eciliate membrane, 3 mm long, abaxially
scaberulous, acute. Leaf-blades linear, flat or involute, 3–12 cm long, 1.5–2.5
mm wide. Leaf-blade surface scabrous.
Inflorescence.
Inflorescence compound, a panicle. Panicle pyramidal, effuse, 8–20 cm long.
Spikelets.
Spikelets pedicelled. Fertile spikelets 1-flowered, comprising 1 fertile
floret(s), with a barren rachilla extension, lanceolate, laterally compressed,
2.5–5.5 mm long.
Glumes. Glumes
similar, firmer than fertile lemma. Lower glume lanceolate, membranous, keeled,
1-keeled, 1 -nerved. Upper glume lanceolate, 2.7 mm long, membranous, keeled,
1-keeled, 1 -nerved. Upper glume surface smooth or asperulous.
Florets.
Fertile lemma 1.7 mm long, without keel, 4–5 -nerved. Lemma surface glabrous.
Lemma apex erose or dentate, muticous. Palea present. Lodicules present.
