seta, bristle; -acea, indicating resemblance.

Habit.
Perennial. Culms 30–60 cm tall. Ligule a fringe of hairs. Leaf-blades filiform,
convolute, 15–25 cm long, 1 mm wide.

Inflorescence.
Inflorescence solid, a panicle. Panicle globose, 1–2.5 cm long.

Spikelets.
Spikelets pedicelled. Basal sterile spikelets absent or rudimentary, 0–3 in
number. Fertile spikelets 1-flowered, comprising 1 fertile floret(s), without
rachilla extension, cuneate, laterally compressed, 7 mm long.

Glumes. Glumes
similar, thinner than fertile lemma. Lower glume lanceolate, membranous,
keeled, 1-keeled, 1 -nerved. Lower glume apex awned. Upper glume elliptic, 7 mm
long, membranous, keeled, 1-keeled, 1 -nerved. Upper glume apex awned.

Florets.
Fertile lemma 5 mm long, without keel, 3 -nerved. Lemma apex awned, 3 -awned.
Median (principal) awn 4–5 mm long overall, with a twisted column. Lateral
lemma awns present. Palea 2 -nerved, without keels. Palea apex dentate, awned.
