, resembling. Gk. amphi-, double; pogon, beard. Both lemmas
have several awns arising from incisions at their apices.

Habit.
Perennial. Rhizomes present, short. Culms erect or geniculately ascending,
20–40 cm tall, 3–6 -noded. Mid-culm nodes glabrous. Ligule a fringe of hairs.
Leaf-blades filiform, involute, 5–15 cm long, 1–2 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface
scaberulous.

Inflorescence.
Inflorescence solid, a panicle. Panicle ovate, 1–1.5 cm long.

Spikelets.
Spikelets sessile. Fertile spikelets 1-flowered, comprising 1 fertile
floret(s), without rachilla extension, oblong, laterally compressed, 5–7 mm
long.

Glumes. Glumes
similar, thinner than fertile lemma. Lower glume lanceolate, membranous,
without keels, 3 -nerved. Lower glume surface indumented. Upper glume
lanceolate, 5–7 mm long, membranous, without keels, 3 -nerved. Upper glume
surface indumented.

Florets.
Fertile lemma 3.5–4 mm long, without keel, 3 -nerved. Lemma surface indumented.
Lemma apex lobed. Palea 2 -nerved, without keels. Palea apex lobed. Anthers 3.
