Habit.
Perennial. Rhizomes present, elongated. Basal leaf sheaths absent. Culms erect,
300–400 cm tall, 12–20 mm diam., woody. Mid-culm internodes hollow,
thin-walled, glabrous. Mid-culm nodes glabrous. Lateral branches dendroid.
Leaves cauline. Leaf-sheaths glabrous on surface. Leaf-sheath auricles present.
Ligule an eciliate membrane, obtuse. Leaf-blades lanceolate or oblong, flat,
7.5–10 cm long, 12–20 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface indumented.

Inflorescence unknown.
Spikelets.
Spikelets sessile. Fertile spikelets many flowered, with at least 2 fertile
florets (2–4), comprising 1–4 fertile floret(s), with a barren rachilla
extension, lanceolate, laterally compressed, 25–30 mm long.

glume oblong, 7–8 mm long, chartaceous, keeled, 1-keeled.
Florets.
Fertile lemma 20 mm long, without keel, 11–13 -nerved. Palea apex with
excurrent keel nerves. Lodicules present. Anthers 3.
