Habit. Annual.
Culms erect, 25–30 cm tall. Mid-culm nodes pubescent. Lateral branches sparsely
branched or branched. Ligule a fringed membrane, a ciliate membrane, 1 mm long.
Leaf-blades 3–6 cm long, 1–3 mm wide.
Inflorescence.
Inflorescence compound, a panicle of rames. Peduncle distinct. Rhachis fragile
at the nodes.
Spikelets.
Spikelets sessile, 1 in the cluster. Companion spikelets pedicelled, 1 in the
cluster. Companion spikelets represented by single glumes, 0.5 mm long. Fertile
spikelets 2-flowered, the lower floret barren (rarely male), the upper fertile,
comprising 1 basal sterile florets, comprising 1 fertile floret(s), without
rachilla extension, ovate, terete, 2–3.5 mm long.
