Perennial. Culms erect or geniculately ascending, 30–300 cm tall. Mid-culm
nodes glabrous. Lateral branches branched. Leaf-sheaths glabrous on surface.
Ligule an eciliate membrane, 0.1–2 mm long, membranous, truncate. Leaf-blades
flat or involute or convolute, 10–20 cm long, 0.2–4 mm wide.

Inflorescence compound, a panicle. Panicle linear, 10–25 cm long.

Spikelets pedicelled. Fertile spikelets 1-flowered, comprising 1 fertile
floret(s), without rachilla extension, lanceolate, terete, 8–10 mm long.

Glumes. Glumes
similar, thinner than fertile lemma. Lower glume lanceolate, membranous,
without keels, 3 -nerved. Upper glume lanceolate, 5–9 mm long, membranous,
without keels, 3 -nerved.

Fertile lemma 5–7 mm long, without keel, 5 -nerved. Lemma surface indumented.
Lemma apex awned, 1 -awned. Median (principal) awn 15–40 mm long overall, with
a straight or slightly twisted column. Column 3.5 mm long. Palea without keels.
Lodicules present. Anthers 3. Grain 4 mm long.

Notes. A South
American species, thus far only occuring in the Southern Lofty region of South Australia.
