Habit. Annual
or perennial. Culms 30–90 cm tall. Ligule a fringe of hairs. Leaf-blades 10–30
cm long, 1–3.1 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface glabrous.

Inflorescence. Inflorescence
compound, a panicle. Panicle oblong or ovate, 5–20 cm long.

Spikelets.
Spikelets pedicelled. Fertile spikelets many flowered, with at least 2 fertile
florets ((3-)5–25), comprising (3–)5–25 fertile floret(s), with diminished
florets at the apex, linear or oblong, laterally compressed, 5–18 mm long.

Glumes. Glumes
similar. Lower glume lanceolate, membranous, keeled, 1-keeled, 1 -nerved. Upper
glume lanceolate, 1–2 mm long, membranous, keeled, 1-keeled, 1 -nerved.

Florets.
Fertile lemma 1.8–3 mm long, keeled, 3 -nerved. Lemma surface glabrous. Lemma
apex muticous or awned, 1 -awned. Median (principal) awn 0–1.5 mm long overall.
Palea 2 -nerved. Anthers 3.

Notes.
Native; distributed through the northern half of Qld, away from the Gulf, with
scattered occurrences in the Kimberley, W.A. and N.T. Also in the Philippines,
Aru Is. (in the Moluccas) and southern New Guinea. Mainly on sandy soils on the
edge of clay pans, with other grasses in savanna woodland or forest.
