-ensis, denoting origin. From Mt. Greville, south-east Queensland,
Australia.

Habit.
Perennial. Rhizomes present, elongated. Culms 12–25 cm tall. Lateral branches
sparsely branched. Leaves mostly basal. Leaf-sheaths hairy. Ligule a fringed
membrane, a ciliolate membrane, 1 mm long. Leaf-blades straight, filiform,
involute, 4–7 cm long, 1 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface indumented.

Inflorescence.
Inflorescence compound, a panicle. Panicle oblong, 4–8 cm long.

Spikelets.
Spikelets pedicelled. Fertile spikelets 2-flowered, the lower floret barren
(rarely male), the upper fertile, comprising 1 basal sterile florets,
comprising 1 fertile floret(s), without rachilla extension, elliptic, laterally
compressed, 5 mm long.

Glumes. Glumes
thinner than fertile lemma. Lower glume ovate, membranous, keeled, 1-keeled,
3–7 -nerved. Upper glume ovate, 5 mm long, membranous, keeled, 1-keeled, 5
-nerved. Florets. Basal sterile florets 1, male, with palea. Lemma of
lower sterile floret 100 % of length of spikelet, membranous, 1-keeled, 5
-nerved.

Fertile lemma 2.5 mm
long, without keel. Lemma apex awned, 1 -awned. Median (principal) awn 4.5 mm
long overall, with a twisted column. Palea 2 -nerved. Lodicules present.
Anthers 3. Grain 1 mm long.
