Habit. Perennial.
Rhizomes present, short. Culms 60–110 cm tall, 3–5 -noded. Leaf-sheaths hairy.
Ligule an eciliate membrane, 1.5–2 mm long, obtuse. Leaf-blades filiform,
involute or convolute, 15–50 cm long, 1–2.5 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface smooth,
indumented.
Inflorescence.
Inflorescence compound, a panicle. Panicle linear, 11–26 cm long.
Spikelets.
Spikelets pedicelled. Fertile spikelets 1-flowered, comprising 1 fertile
floret(s), without rachilla extension, lanceolate, terete, 20–25 mm long.
Glumes. Glumes
similar, thinner than fertile lemma. Lower glume lanceolate, membranous, much
thinner above, without keels, 3 -nerved. Lower glume surface indumented. Upper
glume lanceolate, 15–21 mm long, membranous, without keels, 5 -nerved. Upper
glume surface indumented.
Florets.
Fertile lemma 11–13 mm long, without keel. Lemma surface indumented. Lemma apex
entire, awned, 1 -awned. Median (principal) awn 55–95 mm long overall, with a
twisted column. Column 30–60 mm long. Palea without keels. Lodicules present.
Anthers 3. Grain 6–7.5 mm long.
