Habit.
Perennial. Culms erect or geniculately ascending, 100 cm tall, 1.5–3 mm diam.
Mid-culm internodes pubescent or hirsute. Mid-culm nodes pubescent.
Leaf-sheaths hairy. Ligule an eciliate membrane, 0.5–0.8 mm long, abaxially
pilose, truncate or obtuse. Leaf-blades flat or involute, 20–40 cm long,
1.5–2.5 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface indumented.
Inflorescence.
Inflorescence compound, a panicle. Panicle elliptic, 30–36 cm long, 3–5 cm
wide.
Spikelets.
Spikelets pedicelled. Fertile spikelets 1-flowered, comprising 1 fertile
floret(s), without rachilla extension, lanceolate, terete, 11–15 mm long.
Glumes. Glumes
similar, thinner than fertile lemma. Lower glume lanceolate, membranous, much
thinner above, without keels, 3 -nerved. Upper glume lanceolate, 9–11 mm long,
membranous, without keels, 5 -nerved. Upper glume surface asperulous.
Florets.
Fertile lemma 5.5–6.5 mm long, without keel. Lemma surface indumented. Lemma
apex dentate or lobed, awned, 1 -awned. Median (principal) awn from a sinus,
35–60 mm long overall, with a twisted column. Column 7–25 mm long. Palea
without keels. Lodicules present. Anthers 3. Grain 3–4 mm long.
