Habit.
Perennial. Culms erect, stature robust to moderate, 40–100 cm tall. Leaf-sheaths
smooth or scaberulous. Ligule a fringed membrane, a ciliate membrane, 0.3–3 mm
long, membranous, truncate. Leaf-blades erect, involute or convolute, 2–3 mm
wide. Leaf-blade surface glabrous or indumented.

Inflorescence.
Inflorescence compound, a panicle. Panicle oblong, 10–30 cm long.

Spikelets.
Spikelets sessile or pedicelled. Fertile spikelets 1-flowered, comprising 1
fertile floret(s), without rachilla extension, lanceolate, terete, 12–17 mm
long.

Glumes. Glumes
similar, thinner than fertile lemma, shiny. Lower glume lanceolate, membranous,
without keels, 3 -nerved. Upper glume lanceolate, 10–17 mm long, membranous,
without keels, 5 -nerved.

Florets.
Fertile lemma 6.5–8.5 mm long, without keel. Lemma surface indumented. Lemma
apex awned, 1 -awned. Median (principal) awn 30–67 mm long overall, with a
twisted column. Column 10–20 mm long. Palea without keels. Grain 3–4 mm long.
