Habit.
Perennial. Culms stature slender to delicate, 16–150 cm tall, wiry. Lateral
branches simple or sparsely branched or branched. Ligule an eciliate membrane
or a fringed membrane, a ciliolate membrane, 0.8–2 mm long, lacerate.
Leaf-blades 1.7–21 cm long, 2–5 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface scabrous, glabrous
or indumented.

Inflorescence.
Inflorescence compound, a panicle of racemes. Racemes 5–25, 5–16 cm long.
Central inflorescence axis 4–50 cm long.

Spikelets.
Spikelets pedicelled. Fertile spikelets many flowered, with at least 2 fertile
florets, comprising 3–8 fertile floret(s), with diminished florets at the apex,
oblong, laterally compressed, 2.5–6 mm long.

Glumes. Lower
glume lanceolate or ovate, membranous, keeled, 1-keeled, 1 -nerved. Upper glume
elliptic or oblong or ovate or obovate, 1.2–2.5 mm long, membranous, keeled,
1-keeled, 1 -nerved.

Florets.
Fertile lemma 1.5–2.8 mm long, keeled, 3 -nerved. Lemma apex mucronate. Palea 2
-nerved.
