Type of Basionym or Protologue Information: HT: S. Elliott s.n., Aug-Oct, USA: South Carolina: Charleston Co.: Hab. in pinetis humidis (CHARL; IT: US-80696 (fragm. ex CHARL & photo)). Cited as coming from Virginia by Zuloaga et al., Ann. Missouri Bot. Gard. 85(4): 647 (1998).

Recent synonyms: Fasciculochloa sparshottiorum.

Habit. Perennial. Culms erect, 30–60 cm tall, spongy, 3–4 -noded. Mid-culm nodes glabrous. Lateral branches sparsely branched. Leaf-sheaths smooth, glabrous on surface. Ligule a fringed membrane, a ciliolate membrane, 0.4 mm long. Leaf-blades 10–20 cm long, 2–3.5 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface smooth, glabrous.

Inflorescence. Panicle ovate, 15 cm long, contracted about secondary branches.

Spikelets. Spikelets pedicelled. Fertile spikelets 2-flowered, the lower floret barren (rarely male), the upper fertile, comprising 1 basal sterile florets, comprising 1 fertile floret(s), without rachilla extension, oblong, laterally compressed or terete, 2.5 mm long.

Glumes. Glumes thinner than fertile lemma. Lower glume oblong, membranous, 3 -nerved. Lower glume surface glabrous. Upper glume elliptic, 1.7 mm long, membranous, without keels, 3–5 -nerved. Upper glume surface glabrous. Florets. Basal sterile florets 1, barren, with palea. Lemma of lower sterile floret 100 % of length of spikelet, chartaceous, 5 -nerved.

Fertile lemma 2.2 mm long, without keel, 2 -nerved. Anthers 2.

Continental Distribution: Australasia.

Australian Distribution: Queensland.

Queensland: Moreton.

Notes. Occupies a very restricted site in SE Qld, 9 km SSE of Logan village. Qld. Flowers Jan.-Feb.
