Habit. Annual
or perennial. Culms erect or geniculately ascending, 25–75 cm tall. Ligule an
eciliate membrane, 2–7 mm long. Leaf-blades 10–50 cm long, 0.2–1 mm wide.

Inflorescence.
Inflorescence compound, a panicle, a panicle. Panicle 10–25 cm long, 10–30 cm
wide.

Spikelets.
Spikelets pedicelled. Fertile spikelets 1-flowered, comprising 1 fertile
floret(s), with a barren rachilla extension, laterally compressed, 3.5–5.5 mm
long.

Glumes. Glumes
similar, firmer than fertile lemma. Lower glume lanceolate, membranous, keeled,
1-keeled, 1 -nerved. Upper glume lanceolate, 3.5–5.5 mm long, membranous,
1-keeled, 1 -nerved.

Florets.
Fertile lemma 0.5–55 mm long, 5 -nerved. Lemma surface indumented. Lemma apex
dentate, awned, 1 -awned. Median (principal) awn dorsal, 3–5–8 mm long overall.
Lodicules present. Anthers 3.
