Habit.
Perennial. Culms geniculately ascending or decumbent, 30–100 cm tall, spongy.
Lateral branches branched. Leaf-sheaths smooth, glabrous on surface. Ligule an
eciliate membrane, 2–8.5 mm long, obtuse or acute. Leaf-blades flat or
conduplicate, 5–30 cm long, 3–14 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface scaberulous or
scabrous.

Inflorescence.
Inflorescence compound, a panicle. Panicle lanceolate or oblong, 10–47 cm long.

Spikelets.
Spikelets pedicelled. Fertile spikelets many flowered, with at least 2 fertile
florets (7–16), comprising 7–16 fertile floret(s), with diminished florets at
the apex, oblong, laterally compressed, 10–25 mm long.

Glumes. Glumes
similar. Lower glume elliptic or oblong or ovate, membranous, without keels or
keeled, 1 -nerved. Upper glume elliptic or oblong or ovate, 2.5–4 mm long,
membranous, without keels or keeled, 1 -nerved.

Florets.
Fertile lemma 3.5–5.1 mm long, without keel, 7 -nerved. Lemma apex entire.
Palea 2 -nerved. Palea apex erose or dentate. Lodicules present. Anthers 3.
Grain 2 mm long.
