Habit.
Perennial. Culms 30–100 cm tall. Ligule a fringe of hairs. Leaf-blades convolute,
15–30 cm long, 2–3 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface glabrous.
Inflorescence.
Inflorescence compound, a panicle. Panicle linear or lanceolate or ovate,
effuse, 80–140 cm long.
Spikelets.
Spikelets pedicelled. Fertile spikelets many flowered, with at least 2 fertile
florets, comprising 6–12 fertile floret(s), with diminished florets at the
apex, oblong, laterally compressed, 15–30 mm long.
Glumes. Glumes
similar, thinner than fertile lemma. Lower glume lanceolate, membranous,
keeled, 1-keeled, 3 -nerved. Upper glume lanceolate, 5–9 mm long, membranous,
keeled, 1-keeled, 3–5 -nerved.
Florets.
Fertile lemma 6–9 mm long, keeled, 7 -nerved. Lemma surface glabrous. Lemma apex dentate. Palea 2 -nerved. Grain
2.4 mm long.

N. microdon superficially resembles Glyceria australis, but can
